“A House of Prayer?”
Where do you pray?
Do you pray at a certain place or do you pray in many places?
Do you pray once a day or often?
Scripture tells us this.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Rejoice always,
17 pray continually,
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
The Jewish religious leaders were not following the Lord’s desire for worship in the temple.
Please read the following verses.
15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves,
16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts.
17 And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’
I pray that we would remember how the Lord would have us use His houses of worship that He blesses us with.
When we come as the gathered body of Christ, He is the One we come to pray to and worship.
I pray that we would never look at our houses of worship as ways to make money.
The Jewish religious leaders did this to their own peril.
May we indeed learn from them?
